The Captain America Action Figure is based on the marvel comic hero who was in the very first edition of that comic book series in 1941. Captain America is one of the most loved superhero characters and he still remains popular right up until today. He is viewed by many as the living symbol of the strength and spirit of the US. It is little wonder that there has action figures have been much sought after over the years by children in the United States.

One of the most popular Captain America action figures was as part of the Captain Action series in the sixties. This doll was able to turn into popular superheroes including Captain America. This toy range stopped being produced by the end of the sixties but it returned briefly at the end of the nineties and there are rumors of perhaps another outing for this hero soon.

The toy maker Hasbro has been responsible for some of the most memorable representations of Captain America. These figurines can be found in different styles such as unmasked or bobble headed; the most popular is probably still the classic Captain America action figure. Some of the oldest figurines are now collector’s items.

Storyline

The storyline of Captain America starts with a scrawny young man called Steve Rogers. He lives in New York and is the son of Irish immigrants who died when he was a child. The year is 1940 and Steve is so appalled by what is going on with the war in Europe that he tries to enlist. The fact that he is so weedy means that his application to join the army is refused – he just isn’t soldier material.

Another option is given to Steve Rogers. He is contacted by a secret branch of the US defense forces and they offer him a way to serve his country. Steve agrees to join their experiments and he is subject to a rigorous regime of testing and receiving special medications. The experiment is called ‘operation rebirth’ and it aims to produce the ultimate soldier. The medication that Steve receives included super-soldier serum and it soon starts having an effect. He also has to go through a procedure which involves being exposed to special rays.

Steve Rogers is completely transformed by operation rebirth. He goes from being a scrawny youngster to being the ultimate fighting machine. The organizers of the operation are happy with the progress and pronounce Steve to be a ‘nearly perfect human-being’. Before they can create more soldiers like Steve though, a Nazi spy manages to kill the lead scientist of the operation – the secret of the special serum dies with him. Steve Rogers is now going to be the only human who has these special abilities.

The American government decides to scrap the idea of super-soldiers but realize that they can use Captain America in other ways. They figure out that he would be great for counter-intelligence and he could also be used for propaganda. They supply Steve Rogers with a special uniform and soon he is off fighting the bad guys. He now has a dual identity; Captain America and Steve Rogers.

The Good Guys

The main good guy in Captain America is Steve Rogers, because he actually is Captain America. Steve was turned down for the army when he went to enlist at the time of the Second World War; the reason for this was that he was just too weedy. He was offered an alternative though, an experimental procedure aimed at creating super-soldiers. Steve joined the experiment and the scientists managed to make him into a type of superman; before they could create more super-soldiers the lead scientist was killed by Nazis. Steve Rogers ended up being the only human with these superpowers and it was decided that he should use them to fight the bad guys. Steve slipped on a superhero costume and became Captain America.

US Army General Chester Philips was the person in charge of the special operation to create super-soldiers. It was him who picked Steve Rogers to join the program.

James Buchanan Barnes who is usually called Bucky was Steve Roger’s side kick for many years. When Steve Rogers died Bucky took over the role as Captain America.

Sharon Carter is a secret agent with SHIELD and she becomes Steve Roger’s girlfriend for awhile.

The Bad Guys

As you can imagine a superhero like Captain America is bound to make some enemies over the years. Here are just some of the most notable.

Hate-Monger is a clone of Adolf Hitler and they don’t get much more evil than that. His special powers include the ability to create fear and hatred in the minds of people. He can also get energy from people’s fears.

Jack O’Lantern once worked for the CIA but he was kicked out of the organization in disgrace. He became a mercenary and also the enemy of Captain America and other superheroes. Jack O’Lantern wears a special protective uniform and he can fire electrical shocks from a wrist blaster.

Flag-Smasher is a Swiss villain and he would like nothing better than to eradicate nationalism; some would call him a hero for this but not Captain America. Flag-Smasher has no real special abilities but he does like to stir up a crowd. He also once began his own one-man terrorist attacks on New York City.

Baron Blood is an ageless vampire and an evil one at that. Baron blood was turned into a vampire by Dracula himself and he was given the instruction to go to England and cause as much mischief as possible. Somewhere along the way he managed to get on the wrong side of Captain America.
