The History of the Six Million Dollar Man Action Figures
The Six Million Dollar Man is credited as being the world’s first truly successful action figure based on a TV show. This Six Million Dollar Man doll broke new ground in lots of other ways as well. It was the first action figure to have a bionic eye that you could through; there was a hole in the back of the figure’s head for this purpose. It was also taller than most of the other action figures of that period. Another unique feature was that you could roll back the skin on his arm to see the machinery in his arm. The bionic doll could also be used to life weights of up to a few pounds.
The Six Million Dollar Man action figure first hit the shelves in 1975; the year after the TV series arrived in people’s living rooms. By the time the doll was released Bionic man fever had taken over, and there is little wonder as to why it became so successful. It was also the unique features of the doll that made it so popular though; it seemed to offer a lot more than other action figures out at the same time. There was no need to immediately run out to by accessories because there was enough entertainment to be had to keep young minds engaged for at least a few weeks.
After the successful release of the first Six Million Dollar Man action figure there were more to come. Other dolls like the Bionic Big-foot and the Bionic Woman appeared on the scene. The number of different accessories available for the bionic man went through the roof - everything from exploding briefcases to sky rockets.
The success of the Six Million Dollar Man action toy was very tied in with the success of the TV series. The series managed to keep audiences glued to their seats for a long time, but all good things have to come to an end. The show managed to last five seasons from 1974 until 1978 and it also spawned another spin-off TV series called the bionic woman.
Six Million Dollar Man action figures are in high demand but it is almost impossible to find pristine dolls .These were great toys and when children had them they liked to bash them about a bit. These action figures are often a much cherished memory for those adults who once played with them so interest in the toy as collectables remains high.
