Six Million Dollar Man: Storyline
Steve Austin is a former astronaut who is severely injured when he crashes the delta-wing air craft he has been testing. If this accident had occurred a year or two earlier Steve would be dead or at least crippled, but thanks to modern technology it is possible to turn him into a cyborg. Oscar Goldman decides to invest six million dollars into fixing all the parts of Steve Austin’s body that have been damaged beyond repair. When the surgery is complete what is left is a half man and half machine. The Six Million Dollar Man has mechanical legs that allow him to run at sixty miles an hour, a bionic eye that allows him to see great distances, and right arm that allows him to send one hell of a blow.
The Six Million Dollar Man is not allowed to squander his amazing abilities and is quickly put to work fighting the bad guys. Steve is now a member of OSI which is a highly secret intelligence agency involved in the most secret missions there is. His first task involves being sent to steal papers from a yacht and this nearly gets him killed, but he triumphs in the end. In Steve’s next mission he is sent to deal with kidnappers who have taken a politician’s daughter; once again he beats the bad guys. He continues beating the bad dudes for over a hundred future missions shown in the television series.
The Six Million Dollar Man wouldn’t be complete without a bionic woman. This came in the form of Jamie Summers; she was a love interest of Steve’s who had an almost fatal accident with a parachute. She was saved in much the same way as Steve had been and also gained superhuman abilities. Like Steve she began taking on missions until the two disappeared from TV screens in 1978. They came back again in 1994 when they finally tied the knot.
