Voltron has truly proven to be one of the greatest animated series ever. Here are the protagonists that have contributed to its undisputable greatness:
The Space Explorers
1. Commander Keith
His Japanese name is Akira Kogane. Keith is the Voltron force’s Commander and leader. He is the pilot of the Black Lion and he wears the red uniform. He is around 21 to 23 years old. Keith is shown as a quiet guy who likes to spend most of his time reflecting on his decisions and making up new strategies. He also likes reading books. He often stays in his room or in the pilot's lounge.
2. Lance Charles McClain
His Japanese name is Isamu Kurogane. Lance is Voltron’s second in command. He is the pilot of the Red Lion and he wears the blue uniform. He is a tall guy, approximately 21 to 23 years old. He is both wiry and wily, as shown in his crafty style. Lance has the habit of telling jokes and teasing others. He is the one who is gutsy enough to challenge Keith's commands. He is the ladies' man of the group, although he has a tendency to be a little too daring and bold at times.3. Sven Holgersson
His Japanese name is Takashi Shirogane. Sven was the second in command at the start of the series. He is the pilot of the Blue Lion and wears the black uniform. In episode 6 of the series, he was injured during Haggar’s attack and was sent away for treatment. After that, the role of the Blue Lion’s pilot was filled in by Allura. He is now residing on Planet Pollux with Prince Bandor and Princess Romelle, who are both cousins of Allura. Sven is very quiet most of the time and only spoke when there was something important he needed to say. Contrary to his appearance, he is an emotional person, and has always used his heart above his mind in making decisions.
4. "Hunk" Garett
His Japanese name is Tsuyoshi Seido. Hunk is the strongest man in the group. He is the pilot of the Yellow Lion and he wears the yellow uniform. He is around 22 to 24 years old. Although he looks tough and uncaring, he is kind-hearted. He is always teased by his friends about his appetite.
5. Darrell "Pidge" Stoker
His Japanese name is Hiroshi "Chibi" Suzuishi. Pidge is the smallest and youngest in the group. He is the pilot of the Green Lion and he wears the green uniform. He is around 12 years old. He graduated at a young age, and he is very knowledgeable in science. Like the other space explorers, he is adept in martial arts. He uses his size and dexterity to his advantage. Pidge always has the guts to speak his mind to villains. His brother, Chip, is a Vehicle Voltron Air Team member.
Other Main Characters
1. Princess Allura
Her Japanese name is Princess Farla. She is the ruler of the Altaire Kingdom, as well as the Planet Arus. She fills in the position of Sven Blue Lion’s pilot and she wears a pink uniform. She is considered a fearless warrior. She is around 18 to 20 years old. Although a little naďve, Allura is a determined person and has proven to be very efficient in governing her own planet.
2. Princess Romelle
Her Japanese Name is Princess Omuvei. Princess Romelle is the cousin of Allura. She resides on Planet Pollux, which she co-governs along with Prince Bandor, her brother. She closely resembles Princess Allura. Although she was once Lotor’s slave, she was saved by Sven and they fight hand-in-hand for her people versus the Drule empire.
3. Prince Bandor
Although he is short, he is ruler of Planet Pollox. He assumed that position when the evil witch Haggar turned his brother into a “Robeast”.
4. King Alfor
His Japanese name is King Raimon. King Alfor is the deceased father of Allura. He was the previous ruler of the planet Arus. He is the one who created Voltron. He returns as a ghost every now and then to give much needed counsel to his daughter so that he can help her in battling evil forces to sustain peace on planet Arus.
8. Coran
His Japanese name is Raible. Coran is the royal advisor of Allura. He is the one in charge of Castle Control. He also gives advice to the Voltron Force. He is very wise, although at times, he can be overprotective and opinionated.
9. Nanny
Her Japanese Name is Hisu. Nanny is the overprotective caregiver of Allura. She always insists on making Allura’s decisions for her. Like Coran, Nanny is also very watchful for the Princess’ safety.
10. Space Mice
The Space Mice are Zuky, Cheader, Photy and Inky. They have been living in the castle for quite sometime. When Allura was still a little girl, they used to cheer her up. They have also bonded with Pidge. The mice were also able help the Voltron Force on some occasions. They have the ability to chew through rock and they even have their own little mice plan. They are fearful of Hagar\'s blue cat.
